Specialized Support: Sudden Loss
I specialize in counseling with adults who have experienced a sudden loss, offering a trauma-informed, compassionate, and down-to-earth approach to therapy. In our sessions you can expect warmth, collaboration, and honesty - along with a space where openness is welcome and you don’t have to filter yourself to be understood.
Processing grief after a sudden loss presents distinct challenges compared with other types of bereavement.* If you have not been able to work through your grief and continue to experience depression, feelings of anxiety, guilt and/or other coping issues relating to your loss, even after participating in more general grief therapy, I may be able to help you with my more targeted approach for dealing with prolonged or complicated aftereffects that can accompany sudden loss. Because your feelings of loss and grief may well involve or even heighten these other conditions, I bring many years of experience and specific skills to help with anxiety, relationship difficulties, and depression.
Loss brought me to counseling, and I’ve dedicated my practice to helping others on the journey through it and into a hopeful future. Friends and family may urge you to “move on” as if your loss is a single event on the timeline of your life, when to you it feels like the endpoint. Although it may not seem possible at this time, you really are capable of integrating the loss – your past life with a loved one – into an “after” life. Forever changed, still walking with loss, but whole…in a different way. Not "moving on," but able to move forward.
